Arizona Diamondbacks Tickets And A Day At Chase Field
By comparison to some of the other baseball teams on the major circuit today, the Arizona Diamondbacks are a relatively young team, established in 1998. The unmistakable Sedona red, black, Sonoran sand and white colors of their uniforms are attention grabbing enough. Just like their nicknames like The D-Back and The Snakes. If nothing else, the Arizona Diamondbacks are proof that it does not take an eternity to become a winning team. Taking home a World Series Title in 2001 is more than proof and it’s the only major league title the Diamondbacks have tucked under their belt thus far.
Winners of a National League Pennant the same year they took the World Series, the Diamondbacks have also won the West Division title in 1999, 2001, 2002 and 2007. Although they do not hold in Wild card berths as of yet, it seems only a matter of time before this up and coming team makes the leap to accomplish this title as well. The Diamondbacks were not the first attempt to create a baseball franchise in Arizona. Originally recognized as a subsidiary of the Suns, the Phoenix Firebirds were the first minor league baseball team for the Phoenix area.
In 1993, Jerry Colangelo put together Arizona Baseball, Inc. which was an ownership group that would apply for an expansion team with the Major League Baseball association. Colangelo was so positive that they would be awarded permission to start the team that prior to approval, a public contest was held to name the team via the Arizona Republic, the state’s top newspaper. The winner was awarded a pair of lifetime season tickets. The team name Arizona Diamondbacks was derived in part after the Western diamondback which is a large rattlesnake indigenous to the Arizona region and widely recognized for the significant amount of venom delivered when it bites.
Most recently during the 2009 season, the Diamondbacks hired a new manager A.J. Hinch and let Bob Melvin go. Although management was not blamed for the balance of the season that ensued, the bottom line is that the Diamondbacks ended up in last place with 92 losses and 70 wins for the season. Many believe that the problems the team encountered for the year had a great deal to do with inadequate pitching skills and a flailing offense. Fans and team alike look forward to a better season in 2010. Although their better season was 2008 when the Diamondbacks achieved their best playing record since becoming members of major League Baseball, many believe the team has the potential to make a repeat of the 2008 season when the team held a 20-8 tally and led the Western League by a total of 6.5 games.
Originally known as Bank One Ballpark when it was first opened on March 31, 1998, today Chase Field is the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks and currently has a seating capacity of 49,033. Located at 401 East Jefferson Street in Phoenix, Arizona, the complete construction cost for Chase Field was $354 million. Other tenants of Chase Field include the Insight Bowl (NCAA) which was held annually from 2000 to 2005.
When the Diamondbacks were participants in the 2001 World Series, Chase Field was the host for games 1, 2, 6 and 7 against the New York Yankees. Chase Field has the option for open or closed roof games to suit the sometimes overbearing Arizona heat or give the perfect view of the Arizona sky at night. With a dirt strip between the pitcher’s mound and home and a swimming pool that rents for $6,500 per game, Chase Field is an exciting venue that also offers 74 luxury suites and 4,400 club seats.
